Where each number is used
BSA drives chemotherapy dosing (mg/m²) and some pediatric and burn calculations. Verifying the BSA used on a chemo order against a current height and weight is a standard oncology nursing double-check — a stale weight changes the dose.
BMI screens nutritional status and surgical and anesthesia risk. It does not distinguish muscle from fat — interpret alongside the clinical picture.
